Location: Cottenham Village College Day: Saturday Start Date: 4th February 2012 Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm Weeks: 1 Price: £30(Full)/£23(concess) Brief Description During this workshop you will create a unique and beautiful Stained Glass panel based upon a fish theme. Experiment with cutting glass, shaping it using a grinding machine, copper foiling it, and finally attaching the fragments together with a soldering iron. A choice of designs will be available for you to use unless you would like to bring your own. Learning outcome: You will learn through demonstrations and discussion. Opportunities will be given to create your own design so that you will understand how to design your own piece if desired. By the end of the day, you will have made a fun decorative piece using glass, and wire, sequins and glass nuggets if desired. Extra costs on the course: Specific glass materials for the day will cost approximately £20 which will be paid to the tutor at the beginning of the workshop. Extra glass if required is individually priced. Tools will be provided except the ones listed below which you will need to bring with you on the day. What you need to bring for the day: A permanent pen, A4 paper and an apron, which is fabric or plastic coated, a jay cloth, a small hand towel, 3 x A4 sheets of clear picture frame glass, a small wooden board, a pair of scissors, a small empty jam jar, a face mask, a pair of pliers, a newspaper, a permanent red pen, blu tac, a roll of masking tape, an empty margarine pot, a glass/tile cutter and a couple of plasters (just in case! But First Aid box available) Optional: sequins, beads, buttons and glass globs. Araldite or similar glue will be needed to affix these items to the glass. How progress & success will be recorded: You will complete an Individual Learning Plan at the start of the day outlining what you hope to achieve during the course. This will be given out at the beginning of the day. After discussion during the course, students and tutor will decide what and how the proposed project can be completed. On completion of the course, what might your next steps be? To create a glass panel or a mirror during another day class. Awarding body: This is a recreational course so there are no exams.
