British Sign Language - a taster

Brief Description:
This course will provide an introduction to British Sign Language; including the finger spelling alphabet, greeting signs and vocabulary. A deaf tutor will teach you the basic signs to be able to hold a simple conversation with your hands and give you a flavour of what to expect from a sign language course. There will be a range of learning methods including games and quizzes to enable you to practise the signs learnt!

Learning outcome:
By the end of this course participants will know and recognize a range of signs and be able to produce some everyday BSL phrases such as ‘how are you?’ and ‘my name is…’.

What you need to bring to the first session: Notepad

How progress & success will be recorded: In Individual Learning Plans and schemes of work (completed by the tutor).

On completion of the course, what might your next steps be: Enrolling on an Introduction to British Sign Language or enrolling on a British Sign Language Level One accredited course at a local college or Deaf Association.
