Location : Cottenham Day : Monday Start Date : 23 April 2012 Time : 8.00-9.00pm Weeks : 8 (Dates: 23 & 30 April, 28 May, 11, 18 & 25 June & 2 & 9 July) Price : £45(full)/£34(concess) Brief Description Blues Guitar for Improvers will introduce the player to blues guitar techniques such as riffs, turnarounds, alternate chords and slide guitar and will expand the player's blues vocabulary. All techniques will be taught through songs from blues greats like Robert Johnson, J.B. Lenoir, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. This will be a hand’s-on class with lots of playing together. All songs and techniques will be accompanied by handouts that include chord diagrams, lyrics and TAB. Blues Guitar for Improvers is ideally suited for players who know first position chords (like E, E7 A, A7, B, B7, D, D7, G, G7, C, C7, F). Pre-requisites Beginning Blues Guitar (Term 1 or 2) or familiarity with first position chords (like E, E7 A, A7, B, B7, D, D7, G, G7, C, C7, F). Learning outcome : The utilise blues techniques such as riffs, turnarounds, alternate chords and slide guitar through songs by the likes of Robert Johnson, J.B. Lenoir, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Extra costs on the course : None What you need to bring to the first session : A guitar (acoustic or electric – please provide your own amp if playing electric) How progress & success will be recorded : Progress and success is very individual and will be based on the tutor informally noting where each individual is at the beginning of the course and where they are at the end of the course. The overall emphasis will be on enjoying blues music and enjoying playing music together, hopefully inspiring an on-going interest in guitar and the blues Awarding body : None - There is no formal external assessment but some classes may be observed by College staff.
