Dichroic Glass Jewellery

  DICHROIC GLASS JEWELLERY
Tutor: Fiona Gooch
Saturday 12th May 2012
10 am – 4 pm
(bring a packed lunch - tea & coffee available)

FEE: £30(f)/£23(r ) and £15 for glass used on the day

This workshop is for Beginners and those that have already attended the Dichroic Glass Jewellery course and learnt the basic techniques required to make jewellery from glass. We will cover safety while working with the glass and you will learn how to successfully cut the glass to the size you want to work with and we will discuss successful designs. Therefore those who have already attended a previous workshop should aim to arrive at 10.30am.

You will be working with clear, coloured and Dichroic glass. Dichroic glass is either clear or black glass which has a coating of quartz crystal and metal oxides deposited on one side. The multitude of colours that the glass reflects make it a fantastic material to use in glass jewellery.

The tutor will provide tools for you to use on the day and there will be a variety of different colours of glass to choose from. Beginners will design pendants & improvers will be able to design either either cufflinks, earings or bracelets.

You will be allocated a certain amount of kiln space, so depending on the size of your pieces, you should be able to complete 4-8 pieces on the day.

As the firing process is lengthy, the tutor will fire all of your pieces after the class and they can then either be collected at a later date.

If you have a specific project in mind, please contact the tutor prior to the class to discuss your ideas for design and colours, to ensure that it will be feasible on the day.
